My views you can use:

This lipstick, a kajal or an eyeliner and I am good to go. My first and yea😊…certainly the best! I did so much research before purchasing this one that chances of it going wrong was minimal. First time I wore this lipstick (just the lipstick, no kajal/ eyeliner on my bare face) to a bank and the lady there showered me with compliments. Pure Rouge is a not true red, it is a red lipstick with blue undertone. The colour pay off is really good, which makes it suitable for pigmented lips.

L'Oreal Pure Rouge is often looked at as a Mac Ruby Woo dupe. So is it one??? Let’s find out. I have used both occasionally for around a year.
  • Ruby Woo is matte, put it on your lips and forget it. It stays unless you wipe it, while Pure rouge(L'Oreal) is not glossy but quite creamy. This creaminess makes it transferable and it does fades evenly after few hours.
  • If you have dusky completion (wheatish/indian/brown😆) and looking for a red lipstick, you can blindly choose one among these or both. None of these lip colour tug, but if have dry lips, you may not like ruby woo. With ruby woo you feel a drag on application, it is that dry. I absolutely love it but this is just to remind readers that with dry lips, you might prefer L'Oreal Paris Pure Rouge to Ruby woo.
  • Ruby Woo is little brighter than L'Oreal Pure rouge.
So, is it a dupe? Yes, it is very close to Ruby Woo - color-wise. But, texture and feel of Mac is different. In all honesty, if I have to buy a red lipstick I would go for ruby woo. It is my HG lipstick.

Amarige by Givenchy

Amarige by Givenchy

Product claims:

The magical, warm feeling of the sun on your skin and the intoxicating light of the sunset in the summer.

A perfume which enchants with its Mediterranean refinement of sparkling Bergamot, Citron of Diamante, and noble Neroli, with the captivating addition of irresistible and attractive accents of Pear Sorbet. The heart celebrates an intense and glamourous femininity, which expresses itself with creamy and velvety facets of Jasmine petals and Osmanthus, together with precious notes of Orange Blossom and Freesia. The sensual and enveloping dry down is based on deep and vibrant tones of Amber Wood and Palo Santo, enriched by the voluptuous notes of Benzoin and sparkling and seductive Musk.

My views you can use:

Very powerful and distinct!!! It is like any classic overpowering floral soap 😑. It annoys my olfactory sensors. Seems like all the flowers in the world were churned together to get this perfume ~ a recipe gone wrong. To be honest, for a long time I believed that I got a fake one as my husband gifted me this in India through an online shopping portal. But, it is very much original and made in France. I sniffed it recently at a mall at a certified dealer.

On a downside, I have 100ml of this fragrance. I really don’t know what to do to it. For a product of eau de toilette category, it is also quite long- lasting.

I have heard that people associate this with marriage. No way!!! Marriage is hopefully not annoyance. For me, the only good reason to wear this is the love and thought process of my husband that went in buying this. It is just 💓

Marriage is about all the senses not just olfactory.

Overall score: 💕💕

If you like strong floral fragrances, go ahead. Else, do not go near this.

Product claims:

Quantity: 30ml/1oz

Price: ~ $45

My views you can use:

Yellow Diamond has fresh citrous top notes of Bergamot, neroli and pear sorbet. Middle notes are light and floral with Jasmine, freesia and a hint of Orange blossom while the base note is musky. An important thing to note is that this one has low silage.

Nothing intense, just fresh, clean and feminine fragrance.

Overall score: 💗💗💕

Yellow Diamond by Versace is citrous when opened but very balanced fragrance. It is feminine indeed but there is no wow factor worth mentioning.

Quantity: 12ml

Price: ~ $ 33

My views you can use:

Wild Musk, a fragrance for women was launched in 2014. The top notes are little floral and strong but not at all an annoyance. The real magic happens when top notes fades away, giving way to magical middle and base notes. I think this one is quite different due to Oudh oils (read about Oud/Oudh), which gives it very soft fruity floral  and woody scent. It is not easy task to describe this fragrance. Its main accords are woody, musky, amber and powdery.

~Pros ~
  • No alcohol
  • Non-irritant
  • Long-lasting
  • High sillage
  • Unique and good scent

Overall Score: 💗💗💗💗
All the notes in the fragrance are in perfect harmony and create a feeling of contentment.

Oud/ Oudh (About Agarwood)

Oud/ Oudh

Agarwood (Source - wikipedia)

Also known as liquid gold in perfume industry, it is one of the most expensive perfume ingredient in the world. Oud find its mention in oldest written texts of India - Vedas.

Evergreen trees of species, Aquilaria and Gyrinops are native to Assam in India, from where it supposedly spread throughout south Asia. On mould infection, these trees produce a resin inside heartwood called aloes or agar, as an immune response towards the infection. The resin makes an odourless heartwood into a valuable dark dense resin embedded wood, called Agarwood.

The exact composition of agar wood oil is unknown due to its extremely complex nature. So far, ~150 compounds have been identified. The ratio of these compounds vary depending upon the age and species of tree as well as on oil extraction method. This is the reason why a good quality oud is a prized possession.

~ Why so expensive ~
  • No analogues
  • Complex yet pleasing, very soft fruity floral but woody scent
  • Very gentle on skin , a Non-irritant
  • Element of forest, rare due to depleting wild forest and indiscriminate cutting for agarwood

Eyeliner Hacks ~ How to prevent an eyeliner from smudging?

Eyeliner Hacks

I was a kajal person for a long time. I would make and wear my own homemade kajal but unfortunately it would smudge badly to make me look like a raccoon. Since, kajals are meant for waterline, taking it off was a big task. I remember how it would strain my eyes, making under eye area so dull and red. When I switched to branded kajals, which I believe were full of harmful chemicals. I would get headaches and feel dizzy. Often, I would see black spots in mucous which I guess reach nose through tear ducts.😟 I am not a die hard fashionista so for these reasons I stopped wearing kajal.

I never thought of wearing an eyeliner because I just assumed it needs expertise and it won’t suit me. Don’t know how and why I bought one. May be it was to satisfy my girly fetish, to buy things for no reason. It is altogether another story that 90% of the things I buy I never use. I just feel like some sort of compulsion to buy. Well, after marriage I moved to another country and had plenty of time doing nothing. That’s when I randomly decided to begin my eyeliner R&D and woah!!! Now I simply love eyeliners😍. Unlike kajal, it’s so easy to take off.

If you are a newbie like me in an eyeliner world, you might know about the frustration of eyeliner smudging all over the eyelid crease . First, it’s a task to get it right and then the smudge gives you level 8 stress😖.

So, this issue definitely needs a dedicated post. But, before that let's have a laugh at a classic eyeliner joke doing the rounds.

 1. Eyeliner hack for oily eyelids or smudgy eyeliner

a. Dust an eye shadow or a good gel eyeliner on top of your eyeliner

It takes forever and good amount of patience to get an eyeliner right. There are some eyeliners which are easy to apply but they don’t stay long and smudge immediately on upper eyelid. If you face this, I suggest dusting an eyeshadow or gently dabbing any gel eyeliner on top of your liquid eyeliner can really help. This is my way of dealing with smudge. I have a useless gel eyeliner and its brush, which is I use for this purpose.

b. Change the moisturiser/ Sunscreen

I get this, you love your eyeliner shade and you are in no mood to settle for the first option. How about changing your moisturiser or sunscreen. Many a times its ingredient like alcohol can cause smudging of eyeliner. I do not wear makeup and usually have a moisturiser with SPF on my face. If the moisturiser is oily or not totally absorbed into the skin, it can cause smearing of eyeliner.

c. Use an eye-primer

I know nothing about primers. But, I have heard urban decay has some really good eye primer for eye makeup. I don’t do makeup, but if you do there are plenty of tutorials and blogs dedicated to how to use it.

 d. Make sure you dry your eye-liner

If you stay in humid place, make sure to turn on fan. A sweaty eyelids can be disastrous base to begin with. Also, give your eye-liner sufficient time to dry.

e. Avoid creamy pencils

These are often the culprit for causing panda eye. Buy an eyeliner that is neither too creamy to smudge nor too harsh to tug the delicate eye area.

2. Well begin is half done 👍

If you are in a hurry, try putting eyeliner from outer corner of eye and work across. Once outer wing is done, you are no longer under the gun. That’s the toughest part to get right. You will be amazed to see how quick and hassle-free it can be to apply eyeliner this way.

3. Best way to remove eyeliner is using coconut oil and Q - tip. This is chemical free and does no harm to delicate eye area.

4. If there is any smudging clean it using Q - tip.

5. If you have shaky hand, go for gel or pencil eyeliner and for outer corner use liquid eyeliner.

I am not finicky about how it looks, sometimes eyeliner does look slightly different on left and right eye but I guess nobody’s gonna stare my eyes to notice the slight difference. Besides, self confidence is the first thing one should always wear. If you like it your way, go ahead. It’s all about you. There are social norms but there is no right or wrong.

👉Do what makes you happy.

Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani

Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani, Eau De Toilette

Product claims:
Acqua di gio, a blend of warm, transparent flowers touched by an ocean breeze . Inspired by a mediterranean island refuge, it captures the essence of paradise.
Mood: Natural and authentic. Woody marine freshness.
Pure freshness and warmth of the Mediterranean Sea

Quantity: 1.7 oz / 50ml

Price: ~ CAD 50

My views you can use:

Smells quite strong and masculine at first. Going by the top note, I disliked it. It was overpowering and nauseating. However, later it leaves a warm harmonising scent of so many things yet nothing I can't explicitly name. In short, this one is really mild yet effective in leaving an impression.

Overall Score: 💗💗

I think this is really not my type of fragrance. Even though it fades to a sober scent, something just doesn’t feel right for me😐. I find it hard to associate with ocean breeze or Mediterranean sea. Surely doesn't capture the essence of my idea of paradise.

Armani Code by Giorgio Armani

Armani Code by Giorgio Armani, Eau de Parfum

Product claims:
An olfactory embroidery based on orange blossom absolute for a fatal seduction.

The floral fragrance opens with a sensual orange flower note intertwined with fresh ginger accents that give way to a slow honey-sandalwood caress. Addictive. Intoxicating. Passionate.

Quantity: 1.7 oz / 50ml

Price: ~ CAD 80

My views you can use:

Definitely addictive, intoxicating and passionate. God only (and Giorgio Armani 😂) knows what’s in this tube, I just can't guess. My olfactory sensors are mesmerised. The top note is sharp sweet orange which vanishes in few seconds leaving mysterious middle and base note. Armani surely knows about the art and craft of fragrance.

Overall Score: 💗💗💗💗
An unforgettable new encounter for sure but not super sensual or fatal 😄. Nothing to complain here.

Eternity by Calvin Klein

Eternity by Calvin Klein, Eau de Parfum

Product claims:

Introduced in 1988. Fragrance notes: spice, flowers and exotic fruits combine with patchouli and amber to create this womanly, romantic scent.

Quantity: 1.7 oz / 50ml

Price: ~ CAD 85

My views you can use:

Eternity is one of the most famous women’s fragrance by Calvin Klein, which also won FiFi award in 1989. Nothing overwhelming or overpowering, a well balanced, clean and fresh scent. It feels little icy when dabbed on wrist. The top note is slightly citrous which mellows down to musk or sandalwood middle and base note, with a hint of suttle floral scent.

I absolutely love this fragrance for it’s gentleness, simplicity and purity. The scent is very calm on senses and relaxing. It’s like walking on damp mosses and foliage in a woods after rainfall on a sunny day. How imaginary soothing 😂 …yeah, that is how fresh and soothing this feels.😇It gives you the same sense of calmness. The product is said to have romantic scent, in my honest personal opinion I find it pure and fresh but not romantic.

Overall Score: 💗💗💗💗
Well balanced fresh scent for daily daytime wear

Truly feminine, sophisticated and modern. I instantly fell in love with this one’s top notes. Top notes are sweet, quite feminine and has deep blackcurrant nectar which is 💗. The middle and base note is of rose and musky wood. Everything described about this one on website is accurate. Si has perfectly balanced top, middle and base notes.

A perfect valentine gift to a woman 😍

Rich, beautifully created and packaged. I normally don't give much weightage to packaging but this one deserves a mention because the product is really worth it.

ck one by Calvin Klein

ck one by Calvin Klein ~ Eau de toilette

Product claims:
cool, clean, refreshing ck one is the original “shared” fragrance that inspires the confidence to be yourself and encourages you to connect with others. The brand belongs to everyone. ck one is an accessible, universal and easy scent. (source: Calvin Klein website)

Quantity: 3.4 oz / 100ml

Price: ~ CAD 80

My views you can use:

ck one is a unisex Eau de toilette launched by Calvin Klein. This one is mild in the beginning and has top notes of mandarin orange and lemon. I find the top notes scent bit soapy or harsh flowery. However, it does settles down to fresh, faint musky scent. Anyone who likes light perfume for office wear can give it a try. Being mild, not floral or masculine, this one is definitely unisex.

Did I find it unique or worth buying again? No

Many people says it's for summer so probably I need to try this in winter and see if I feel fresh 😮

Overall score: ❤ To be honest,  nothing intriguing to rave about.

Acqua di Gioia by Giorgio Armani

ACQUA di GIOIA by Giorgio Armani

Product claims:

There is a charming sensation from the very first notes of this floral fragrance, which are carried along in a deliciously heady current of crushed Mint, with a zest of Italian “Limone Primo Fiore Femminello", harvested from the first spring blossoms in Calabria. At its base, Acqua di Gioia perfume bears the signature of water rooted in the Earth, revealed by luscious LMR Cedarwood Heart sprinkled with sensuous Brown Sugar and Labdanum, which is one of the rare plants to possess animal notes. A beautiful fresh scent ideal for the warm season.

Benefits: The perfect harmony of woman with nature.
Type: Natural Chic (source - http://www.giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com)

Price: ~ CAD 95

Quantity: 1.7 oz / 50ml

My views you can use:

Acqua di Gioia perfume has strong, sweet yet citrous top notes that quickly, almost in minutes fades away giving lovely mild floral scent. The middle notes are somewhat woody and sugary. I did not find anything interesting about base notes. It is mildly earthy and floral. Acqua di Gioia is fresh but I don’t find anything aquatic about this fragrance.

Overall Score:  I didn't find anything special about it. I find it boring.

Everything about Perfume

~ How I met most Perfumes ~

I am neither a fragrance expert nor a regular user of scented items. Thanks to Dubai duty- free, because that’s how I was introduced to perfumes. Long back, I guess long enough to make me forget how long, I was gifted packs of many high-end brands of perfume.

Mysterious is the way a man thinks. Like I never mentioned a word like perfume, scent or fragrance to make him think in that direction, then how 😒 and why 🙆?

But, I must say quality is what my man believes in 😍. Anyway, I kept using Dove deodorant till I moved to Canada. The thing I really loved about Dove deo was the fact that it was gentle on skin and would not darken my underarm like many deodorants. However, Canadian winter screwed the deo. On spray, instead of vapor or mist, it would give powdery chalky or runny liquid stuff. I was dismayed😥, this was my favorite deodorant. Being a choosy person, I knew finding a right one will take ages like it did before.

Then, one fine day I saw these cool bottles of gifted perfumes lying in a box like a prized heirloom. To be honest, I decided to use it because I knew it was really expensive stuff and I didn’t want it to go waste.

Back then, I knew nothing about perfume so I read little bit on it and realized it is actually a lot safer and efficient than a deodorant with loads of chemical.

Here are few important and useful stuff every perfume user should know -

A right perfume can lift your senses and give you a sense of harmony. Still, I really don’t think it is a necessity or an absolute need to incorporate in your life. I prefer to use it only in summer as a deo replacement or for a special occasion.

Also, it is very important to be mindful of other people in our vicinity. In case of a fragrance, less is more. An overpowering, strong perfume can be annoyance to many around us, including me. For some people sensitive to smell, it is more than just sensory assault. Scents can act as nasal irritant to cause sneezing, itching or runny nose. This can also lead to headaches and dizziness.

 ~ Perfume ~

A perfume is a harmonious combination of various aromatic compounds, of varying degree of volatility. These aromatic compounds can be divided into notes, depending upon their degree of volatility and scent release period.

A perfume has three distinct notes. Depending upon the compound added for each note , you sense the scent over the period of time.

~ Three notes in a Perfume ~

1.Top Notes / Head Notes
The aromatic compound of this notes are highly volatile, so it quickly evaporates and releases scent. The moment one dabs a perfume, the note corresponding to this category gives the first impression of a fragrance.
Top note is first scent of a perfume to appear and disappear.Top note fades after some time and then comes fragrance from the middle note fragrances.

We usually label a perfume strong, fresh or floral based on our experience of scent from top note, which is why this note is important from marketing perspective.

2. Middle notes / Heart notes
As the name suggest, this is the heart of a perfume as they last longer than top note and affect base note.

3. Base notes
These notes are least volatile so lingers on skin for long time and together with middle note makes the main fragrance of the perfume.

An interesting thing to note about perfumes is that they smell and last differently on different people based on their diet, hormones and essential oils of skin.

~ Types of perfumes ~

1. Balm ~1- 5% aromatic compounds
Being in balm form makes it less sensitive to light and temperature. Thus, it lasts longer than other types of perfume.

2. Eau de Cologne  ~3- 5 % aromatic compounds
Usually, men's perfumes are of this type and since it is lightly fragrant, it can be sprayed generously.

3. Eau de Toilette  ~5-15 % aromatic compounds
The high alcohol content makes it volatile so the fragrance lasts for ~ 2 - 3 hours.

4. Eau de Parfum ~ 10 - 20% aromatic compounds
The high percentage of aromatic content makes it more expensive. However, it lasts longer ~5 hours and is the preferred type for everyday use.

5. Parfum  ~ 20 - 40%
Fragrance of this type can last for almost a day (~ 8 hours ). It’s less alcohol content makes it suitable for people with dry skin,

~ Where to apply ~

Apply after bath on warm parts of body (Pulse point - where blood vessels are close to skin ) like sides of neck, back of neck, wrists, elbows or behind knees.

A perfume reacts with body heat and volatile aromatic molecules in it are released at different interval of time. This is the reason why it doesn’t make any sense to apply perfume on fabric.

~ Storage ~

Perfumes are light sensitive and volatile so it is should be stored out of sunlight in cool place.
